Moving from Utah to California was a blur. I still marvel at how fast it seemed to happen. It seemed like just yesterday that Steve and I were praying for him to get a certain promotion that he really wanted. He got it, but not in the city and state that he applied for. Phoenix, Arizona was where he applied, but was offered San Diego. I was sick of the cold long winters of Utah and thought a change and some warm weather would do our family some good. I knew that the promotion would do wonders for Steve's job satisfaction and I was up for an adventure. I did not even dream we could end up in someplace magical to me like wine country. Temecula, California-the epitome of perfect place to live. The weather never gets too cold. It's usually in the 70's throughout winter. It does get hot in the summer, but not any hotter than Utah. It is gorgeous, lush and green. It's hills are covered with grapes, orange trees and avocado trees. They grow everything locally even olives that heed delish olive oil! It is centrally located between LA and SanDiego. Two cities that I've always wanted to spend more time in. I love the fact that it is a 35 minute drive to the beach. Amazing. I've been land locked for almost 20 years and now I am a short drive to the beach. It's unreal. I surely need to learn how to surf. To not would be just wrong.
So the best thing about Cali? Year-round running. Elite runners in my own backyard. Runners runners runners and exercise enthusiasts everywhere! I joined a gym where most of the great runners around the area teach classes in everything from yoga to strength training. What better place to be to get inspired! I could not be in a better place to train and prepare for the Boston Marathon...the Marathon of ALL marathons. I now run at a 9:16 per mile pace. I must get that down to 8:40/mile or less. It's not going to be easy, but it is possible. I love a challenge and I enjoy pushing myself. I will try my best to run well enough and fast enough to qualify. And I am determined to do it without neglecting my family and becoming too obsessed. Still I guess it's too late for not being obsessed! Heck, I am training for a marathon...not a tea party. It helps to be a little obsessed, let's be honest!
